Born into a family of renowned Peking opera artists, Han Yanming began learning Peking Opera in the 1960s. In 1970, he was admitted to an opera school and studied as a formal protégé of Zang Erpeng, son of renowned xiqu actor Gai Jiaotian. Later, he joined the "Zhejiang Peking Opera Troupe" to play the martial role. He has won awards such as "Class One Award at the provincial Chinese Opera Showcase", "Excellent Actor Award at the National Chinese Opera Showcase" and "Critics’ Choice at the All China Traditional Theatre Television Grand Prix". In 1990, Han Yanming relocated to Hong Kong and has worked as a martial arts advisor for several major Cantonese opera troupes for nearly three decades. He once served as a member of the 34th council (2009-2011) of the Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong.
